Our Bureau

The conference would provide a forum for officials to share knowledge on principles and practices of fiscal responsibility legislation.

Hyderabad , June 20

THE three-day conference on `Fiscal responsibility and inter-governmental finance', jointly organised by the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) and World Bank, would be inaugurated on June 22 at ASCI's Bella Vista Campus.

In a press release, ASCI said the speakers at the inaugural session include the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the Chairman of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, Dr C. Rangarajan, the Chief Economic Advisor of Union Ministry of Finance, Dr Ashok Lahiri, and World Bank Country Director (India), Mr Michael Carter. The conference seeks to address issues related to fiscal discipline, accountability and inter-governmental finance relevant for State Governments apropos the recommendations of the Eleventh and Twelfth Finance Commissions. It would also provide a forum for officials to share knowledge on principles and practices of fiscal responsibility legislation and facilitate learning from each other's experiences, particularly from well-developed fiscal models in Indian States, as well as from experiences in other countries.

Further, the conference would also help build consensus and best practices within the framework of ongoing reforms in fiscal management at the central and State Government levels, thereby strengthening the institutional framework for prudent fiscal policy and promoting greater macroeconomic stability, the release said.
