Outlook New Holland Tractors to launch two new models this year Our Bureau
Chennai , June 20 NEW Holland Tractors (India) Pvt Ltd plans to introduce two tractors this year, taking its total tractor models to six. The company hopes to sell 14,000 tractors in 2005, against 10,000 it sold last year. According to Mr D.K. Dhamija, Director (Marketing), the company will launch a 38-hp and a 47-hp tractor in the next three months. Besides, it will also upgrade the existing models. New Holland Tractors (India) is part of CNH Global N.V., a leading global tractor and farm machinery manufacturer. Its plant, located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, set up at an investment of Rs 250 crore, has a capacity of 30,000 units a year. The company manufactures tractors with 35-hp, 42-hp, 55-hp and 75-hp engines. Mr Dhamija told reporters here that the company, which had models in the 35- to 75-hp range, realised that this range was not enough for the Indian market and, hence, it would go below the 35-hp range and also add models in its existing range. The company had launched a 33-hp tractor in the northern markets, where it had a strong presence. New Holland Tractors (India) has launched a 35-hp tractor in the Tamil Nadu market, the first one in the South where the product was being introduced. The model - 3030 EX - is priced at Rs 3.21 lakh. Mr Dhamija said the price of this tractor was comparable with those of the competition but New Holland's selling point would be that it was "feature-rich" compared to the competition. For instance, the 3030 EX had greater power and speed, side shift gears and oil-immersed brakes. As part of its strategy to increase sales, the company would increase its dealer network from the present 290 across the country. Between January and May this year, the company sold about 4,500 tractors against 3,000 during the same period last year, Mr Dhamija said, and added that its growth was higher than that of the industry's. The company would also look at increasing exports to about 1,000 tractors against 500 last year. The tractors were exported to South East Asia and Africa and the company was exploring the possibility of exporting them to North America and Latin America, he said.
