Telecommunications Spice hopes to double subscriber base Our Bureau
Bangalore , June 20 SPICE Telecom expects to double its subscriber base over the next one year and plans to invest over Rs 40 crore this year to upgrade its infrastructure. Spice Telecom's Managing Director, Mr Sean Dexter, told Business Line that though the subscriber base growth was flat last year, it is expected to double over the next one year. "We have invested in the infrastructure and sorted out certain issues. This should help us to double the subscriber base," Mr Dexter said. Spice Telecom's subscriber base for Karnataka in May was 3,10,490, according to Cellular Operators' Association of India. For the same month, Bharti's base was 13,24,162, Hutch, 5,93,446 and BSNL, 7,54,018. Mr Dexter said the number of cell sites had also been doubled in Karnataka to over a 100 sites. Tie-up with Intransa: Spice has tied up with Intransa of IP SAN for better data management and disaster recovery solutions. Currently, Spice stores its core enterprise database application related to customer billing, business intelligence, demographics and other administrative information on the FC SAN box. "The Intransa IP SAN allows us to implement a cost-effective, long-term storage solution that can be easily managed without the existing IP skill sets of our IT technicians," Spice Telecom's Vice-President for Information Technology, Mr K. Gurumurthy, told newspersons. Intransa's President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Avi Katz, said the company expected to double its revenue in India before the end of 2005. Intransa also has an offshore software development facility in Pune.
