Rlys earns Rs 2,935-cr freight revenue in May

THE Indian Railways has earned Rs 2,935.65 crore by transporting 55.26 million tonnes of revenue freight during May 2005 compared with Rs 2,505.88 crore from 48.79 mt in the corresponding period last previous year.

In terms of earnings, it registered an increase of 17.2 per cent in rupee terms and 13.3 per cent in terms of tonnage, said an official release.

Of the total earnings, Rs 1,191.11 crore came from transportation of 24 mt of coal.

It earned Rs 135.61 crore for moving 4.24 mt of raw material to steel plants, while Rs 129.7 crore came from 1.24 mt finished iron & steel; Rs 172.35 crore from 3.39 mt iron ore for exports; Rs 249.06 crore from 5.11 mt of cement, Rs 290.24 crore from 3.97 mt of food grains; Rs 116.19 crore from 2.5 mt of fertilisers, Rs 226.36 crore from 2.7 mt of POL and Rs 425.03 crore from 8.11 mt of other goods, stated the Ministry.
