Hyderabad , June 21

IMPRESSED by the success of China in the fields of irrigation and agriculture, the Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to send a team of scientists, experts and officials from the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) to China shortly.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said the team would study the new methods being practised there to increase agricultural production.

It would also study the Communist country's strategy in providing alternative modes of employment.

"Let us compete with China in the field of agriculture," Dr Reddy said.

Interacting with a Chinese delegation here on Tuesday, he said the State was also interested in knowing the cloud-seeding methods being taken up in that country. Besides, China also made progress in producing quality cottonseed.

The AP team would explore possibilities to promote mutual cooperation in food processing and pharmaceutical sectors.

The nine-member Chinese delegation was led by Mr Deng Daokun, Vice-Chairman of Hubei Provincial People's Congress. The delegation was visiting Andhra Pradesh on the invitation of the Chief Minister who visited China early this year.

Dr Reddy told the delegation that the Rs 90,000-crore Three Gorges hydel project being taken up in China was indeed a marvel.

The Information Technology Department of Andhra Pradesh agreed to train Hubei officials in IT for three months at Marri Channa Reddy Human Resources Development Institute in Hyderabad.

The delegation, which also visited ANGRAU, showed interest in transfer of technology in the field of agriculture.
