SPIL taps salt farmers of Gujarat for SS pumps

Our Bureau

Mumbai , June 21

SHAKTI Pumps India Ltd (SPIL) has identified and developed new market for its products - salt farmers.

Salt farmers of Gandhi Dham in Gujarat have approached the company to install its stainless steel submersible pumps/motors for their salt fields because of its advantage of being corrosion- and rust-free.

Gujarat produces 66 per cent of salt in the country. There are more than 300 salt manufacturers in the State.

The company has said that it has replaced 25 HP pumps (old) through its new 12.5 HP SS pumps in Gandhi Dham, which has resulted in more water and saving of up to 40 per cent in electricity and corrosion and rust-proof pumps that increases life of pumps/motors.

"Looking towards the advantages over all other pumps, salt farmers have approached us to install SS pumps at their salt fields. As a result, we have already supplied SS pumps worth over Rs 1 crore in their salt fields," Mr Dinesh Patidar, Executive Director of SPIL, told Business Line.

"We are confident of getting fresh orders of more than Rs 10 crore from this sector in Gujarat alone."

Research indicates that salt affects the pumps and various pump parts vigorously and damages them through corrosion and rusting.

Normally, farmers use submersible pumps to pull water into their fields; on an average, each of them uses 70-80 submersible pumps in their fields ranging from 20 HP to 30 HP of various brands.

These pumps also consume more electricity per day and the pumps have to be changed every 2-3 months due to rusting and corrosion.
