Arts & Crafts Telugu cultural museum planned atop Kailasagiri Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam , June 22 THE Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) and the World Telugu Federation (WTF) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding for setting up the Telugu Samskrutika Niketanam (a cultural museum) atop Kailasagiri here at a cost of Rs 5 crore. Mr G. Venkatarami Reddy, Vice-Chairman of the VUDA, and Ms Indira Dutt, President of WTF, signed the agreement. VUDA will bear Rs 1.2 crore of the cost and WTF the rest. Ms Indira Dutt said the museum would depict Telugu culture, history and arts from the period of Satavahanas to the freedom struggle. "We have been planning to set up the museum for a long time. At last it is taking shape, thanks to the initiative taken by VUDA. The Chief Minister, Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has also been helpful in clearing the proposal," Ms Dutt said. She said Vizag had been chosen for the project, as the city is fast emerging as a major tourist destination. Mr Venkatarami Reddy said Kailasagiri is already a big draw with tourists and the museum would be an additional attraction. Mr P.S.N. Raju, Chairman of VUDA, and Mr. B.S.R Krishna, Secretary-General of the WTF, also spoke on the occasion.
