Paramount Airways to start flights in Aug

Chennai , June 22

PARAMOUNT Airways, the launch customer of Embraer 170 and 175 aircraft in India, plans to start operations from August this year, Mr M. Thiagarajan, Managing Director, Paramount Airways, has said.

The airline is headquartered in Coimbatore and is promoted by the Paramount Group, a textile major based in Madurai.

Mr Thiagarajan said that it was a zero debt company and the funding for the start up would be from internal accruals.

Paramount Airways has placed an order for five aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer Empresa Brasileria de Aeronautica S.A. and has set up an engineering facility in Coimbatore, where the line checks can be done. Initially, this would be in collaboration with the manufacturer, he said.

Mr Thiagarajan said that a detailed study had been done on the choice of aircraft, load factors and routes before coming up with the Paramount business model. The airline is also tying up interline agreements with other domestic airlines.

He said that the airline plans point-to-point flights between secondary towns and metros and will not be competing with the other carriers on the trunk routes.

Paramount will be offering an all-business class service on the first two Embraer 170 aircraft and a First and Business class on the next three Embraer 175 aircraft. Each seat will be either window or aisle; there will be no middle seat.

There will be four cabin crew for the 70-seater aircraft.

The airline has engaged the services of experienced foreign pilots for a year or so. The recruitment of other Indian pilots and cabin crew had also been completed, he said.
