Kolkata , June 23

DISHNET Wireless Ltd has launched the Dishnet Red Broadband Wi-Fi services in Kolkata.

The service will enable Internet users here to access the Net at superior broadband speeds at Dishnet Red Wi-Fi hotspots in the city. The hotspots would be located in hotels, restaurants, cafes, airports, railway stations, shopping malls, convention centres, educational institutions and public locations.

Stating this at a press conference here today, Mr V.G. Suri, Vice President - Sales & Marketing of Dishnet Wireless Ltd, said that, in the first phase, the Wi-Fi hotspots would be rolled out in big cities such as Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.

In the second phase, Wi-Fi hotspots would be opened in cities such as Chandigarh, Cochin, Agra, Thiruvananthapuram, etc. The idea was to have over 500 hotspots across the country by July 31.

Mr Suri said the target clientele for Dishnet's broadband Wi-Fi services were business executives who carry their own laptops and Wi-Fi devices, freelance consultants and creative people and students. "The broadband user base has touched 50 per cent of the total Internet user base and, as such, we are upbeat about our rollout plans in this regard", he added.

According to him, the business potential in Kolkata with regard to broadband services was same as that in Mumbai. In fact, the expected revenue from broadband services in Kolkata was expected to be around Rs 14 crore in the current fiscal, he said.
