CHENNAI: Extreme Networks, the $350 million US-based provider of telecom networking solutions, has established a software research and development centre in Chennai — the company's first such centre outside the US, said Mr Suresh Bopparaju, Centre Head Software Engineering, Extreme Networks India.

The centre will initially have 30 employees and this will grow to about 100 by the year end, he told newspersons. Company officials declined to give investment figures for the 21,000 sq. ft. centre.

The Chennai centre would develop and test new software for global markets, said Mr Siva Ananmalay, Vice President of Engineering, Extreme Networks, which employs about 800 people, including 250 engineers, in the US.
