Pfizer to outsource IT-related work to Indian companies

Our Bureau

Bangalore , June 23

PHARMACEUTICALS major, Pfizer Inc, plans to outsource its IT-related work to Indian vendors, Infosys Technologies and Satyam Computers, as part of its plans to move technology work overseas.

The multi-million IT outsourcing deal with Infosys is spread over three years, market sources said. However, Infosys declined to comment on the Pfizer deal.

Details of the number of jobs that Pfizer plans to move to India are not available. News reports from the US said the move to outsource IT related work to Indian firms was part of Pfizer's $4-billion cost-saving plan.

In an internal memo titled "Evaluating options: Moving IT services to low cost locations," Pfizer officials said the move to outsource some of the computer and technology-related services would be done at a "carefully planned pace".
