Thiruvananthapuram , June 23 THE southwest monsoon has advanced into eastern Uttar Pradesh, parts of Orissa, entire West Bengal, parts of Bihar and Jharkhand on Thursday, on a day when weathermen maintained the outlook for a low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal. Weather update by the medium-range forecaster National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) said the northern limit of monsoon, which resumed its progress on the eastern flank after a day's pause, passed through Nalia, Surat, Sholapur, Ganavaram, Gopalpur, Jamshedpur, Patna and Gorakhpur. Maintaining its forecast for a low-pressure area around Tuesday, the Centre said the build-up of favourable conditions in the Bay continued for the second day on Thursday. Monsoon flow in the region is expected to strengthen by Sunday. Heat wave conditions prevailed over parts of Rajasthan, west Punjab, Jammu, Haryana and Delhi. These are likely to hold for the next 2-3 days. Towards the east, the northeastern States and West Bengal are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rains/thundershowers with isolated heavy to very heavy rains during the next five days. Rainfall activity over Orissa, Bihar and Jharkhand is poised to get a boost during the next five days. East Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive scattered rainfall during next 4-5 days. In central India, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are likely to receive scattered rainfall from Sunday to Tuesday. Heat wave condition over Chhattisgarh is likely to improve during next 2-3 days. Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Kerala, coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka and south coastal Andhra Pradesh. Isolated rains are likely over north interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Rayalaseema. Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa. Scattered to fairly wide spread rain has been forecast for Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, south Gujarat, south Saurashtra and Kutch during the next 3-4 days. Rajasthan is likely to experience mainly dry weather with heat wave conditions during the next 4-5 days. In its forecast for the next 24 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the depression over northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Saurashtra and Kutch has moved westwards and weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area. It was positioned over northeast and adjoining northwest Arabian Sea on Thursday afternoon. The offshore trough at sea level over east Arabian Sea from Konkan to Kerala coast persisted.
