Infrastructure Bids invited for township in Guruvayur Our Bureau
A view of the Srikrishna temple in Guruvayur. - K.K. Najeeb
Kochi , June 23 THE State Government has invited pre-qualification bids from master planners and project consultants in India and abroad to prepare a master plan for the development of a pilgrim township at Guruvayur. Guruvayur, one of the famous pilgrim centres in the country and second largest in pilgrim arrivals, has an area of only 7.476 sq km to host three crore plus devotees annually. This has put the land as well as its people (with 22,000 permanent residents) under tremendous pressure, which has necessitated the creation of an exclusive township. The scope of the work includes augmentation of basic infrastructure including roads, power and water supply and facilities for parking, telecommunications, upgradation of civic amenities like drinking water, public comfort stations, and information centres. The selected firm/individual has to prepare a plan for a modern township with facilities for commercial development including shopping centres, restaurants, food courts, etc. The work will include systems for pilgrims traffic flow and management, area improvement beautification, setting up of boarding and lodging options, and formulation of effective solid and liquid waste management systems. The consultancy and management of the project will be awarded to a consultant or a consortium of consultants who can offer globally competitive and cost-effective solutions. The consortium should ideally comprise architectural firms, town planners, and engineers. Local consultants having valid collaborations with international firms can also apply. The master plan should be submitted in three months. The details of the tender can be availed from the Devaswom Board. The pre-qualified consortiums will be asked to submit technical and financial bids and make presentation before a committee.
