New Delhi , June 23

AIR Deccan has chosen a senior official from the European low cost airline Ryanair to be its Chief Operating Officer (COO).

"The head of Ryanair operations at Stansted Airport in London, Mr Warick Braty, is to be the new COO. He will take up his post in September and will be based in Bangalore. Keeping in mind the massive growth and induction of aircraft that is planned the airline decided to appoint Mr Braty," the airlines Managing Director, Capt. G.R. Gopinath, told Business Line.

Air Deccan had short-listed five to six senior officials from different global airlines, including Easy Jet, South West Airline and Ryanair, as also a subsidiary of Lufthansa for the post.

The current officiating COO at Air Deccan will continue to work with the airline even after the appointment of Mr Braty.

Ryanair is Europe's largest low fares airline that expects to carry over 35 million passengers on 233 low fare routes across 20 European countries during the year.

The airline has 12 European bases and a fleet of over 100 brand new Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Air Deccan carried about one million passengers last year and hopes to see a substantial increase during the current year.
