Airlines HAL bags Rs 100-cr ONGC contract for 3 Dhruvs Our Bureau
Bangalore , June 24 IN what could be its first major civil deal, HAL today bagged a Rs 100-crore order from ONGC for three of its `Dhruv' advanced light helicopters. The civil variants of the copters will be delivered shortly, HAL said in a release. The 14-seater helicopters will be used for ONGC's offshore and onshore activities across the country. The sale is the culmination of talks between the two PSUs in the last few months. In April this year, the ONGC CMD, Mr Subir Raha, was in Bangalore to sign a MoU for wide-ranging co-operation with HAL. The company also sought HAL's expertise in maintaining industrial and marine gas turbine engines. At that time, HAL had offered innovative support packages for the Dhruv services and upkeep of ONGC's turbine engines. Earlier this year, HAL received an order from the Jharkand Government for two Dhruvs in civil version. The Karnataka Government has also entered into an agreement with HAL to lease one helicopter for VIP communication duties. "These major orders prove the excellent capability, reliability, as well as maintainability of Dhruv in civil role. Operation of Dhruv by ONGC is testimony to (its) superlative performance," the release said.
