Our Bureau

New Delhi , June 24

CEMENT and asbestos products emerged as the best performing sector for 2004-05 in terms of market capitalisation gains among the 23 sectors tracked by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry Eco Pulse Study.

The sector recorded a growth of over 146.24 per cent in market capitalisation in FY'05 compared with FY'04.

The gems and jewellery sector was the second best with a growth rate of 140.96 per cent in market capitalisation.

Steel and textiles firms also rewarded their shareholders with a handsome gain of over 80 per cent in market capitalisation.

However, core sectors such as electricity generation and petroleum products registered negative growth rates in shareholders' value, the study found.
