CESC net doubles, declares dividend after seven years

CESC has declared a dividend after seven years.

The power utility has declared a dividend of 25 per cent (Rs 2.50) for the year ended March 31, 2005.

Mr Sanjeev Goenka, Vice-Chairman of RPG Enterprises, told Business Line that the company registered a net profit of Rs 160 crore in 2004-05, against Rs 89 crore notched in 2003-04. The turnover stood at Rs 2,387 crore (Rs 2,392 crore).

Mr Goenka said CESC's debt-equity ratio stood at 1.4:1 in March 2005, compared with 2:1 in March 2004. It would go down further to 1.1:1 by June.

The number of employees stood at 10,700 in March this year compared with 14,421 in the previous year. He said the outlook for the current year is "good" and the company is hopeful of maintaining its profitability. in the current fiscal.
