Trade & Labour Unions APK flays wage hike notification Our Bureau
Kochi , June 26 AN emergency meeting of the executive committee of the Association of Planters of Kerala has said that it was inappropriate for the Government to issue a notification hiking the wages of plantation workers at a time when the industry is reeling under crisis. Mr V.P. Nambi, Chairman, APK, said that the increase is suggested without considering the capacity of the industry to pay. In the case of tea, he said that the prices are lower than what it was during March 2002 when the wages were frozen under mutual agreement. At present, over 30 tea estates have been closed and this proposal of the government would compel the rest of the tea estates also to close down, he added.
