The project proposes creating a 10-gigabyte pipe up to the district level, a one-gigabyte network up to mandal level and 100 megabyte up to village level.

Hyderabad , June 26

AKSH Optifibre Ltd has received an order for Rs 96.1 crore from the AP broadband project for the supply of optical fibre cables (OFC), for phase one of the project, to be delivered within nine months.

The AP broadband project seeks to connect all villages across the State and bring e-governance services to the doorstep of people through Internet kiosks.

The plan is to connect 40,000 offices of the State Government soon. Aiming to bridge the digital divide, the project proposes creating a 10-gigabyte pipe up to the district level, a 1-gigabyte network up to mandal-level and 100 megabyte up to village-level.

The Managing Director of Aksh Optifibre, Mr Kailash Choudhari, in a press release said "the AP broadband project promises to be the forerunner of further such projects in other places both in India and overseas. On completion, it will bring people in the rural areas on par with their counterparts in urban areas providing all necessary information."
