Kolkata HPCL outlets facing huge Euro-III fuel shortage

Kolkata , June 26

SHORTAGE in supply of Euro-III fuel by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd has hit Kolkata.

HPCL controls close to 80 pumps in the city out of a total of about 240.

Mr Jaideb Sarkar secretary of the HP petroleum Dealers Association told mediapersons here today that the oil marketing company had been supplying smaller quantities of both motor spirit and diesel since beginning of this fiscal.

Supply of Euro-III fuel was made mandatory in 11 major cities in the country from 2004-05.

"While our pumps were losing customers, repeated requests to HPCL to enhance supplies fell on deaf ears," he said adding that during last few days the supplies had practically come down to a fifth of the requirement.

"In a majority of the pumps supplies are coming after a gap of seven to eight days."

HPCL authorities, however, could not be contacted for confirmation.
