THE Central Excise help centre for manufacturers in the small-scale sector will start functioning in the premises of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in Mangalore from July 1.
A KCCI release said here that the objective of the help centre is to help tax payers, small assessees, importers and exporters and service providers by providing them an institutional mechanism for guiding and educating in matters relating to Customs, Central excise and service tax. The centre will make them aware of their rights and obligations.
The release clarified that the help centre should not be considered as a forum for redressal of grievances. For this, a public grievance committee is already operational in the commissionerate.
The Additional Commissioner or Joint Commissioner of the Mangalore commissionerate will head the centre. The officials of Central Excise and Customs will be available between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on all working days, the release added.
