SatNav unveils navigation device

Hyderabad , June 28

SATNAV Technologies, a Hyderabad-based IT products company, today announced the launch of what they described as India's first navigation system - SatGuide, a pocket PC-based touch screen navigation device.

The company is in talks with automotive manufacturers to offer this service.

The Managing Director of SatNav Technologies, Mr Amit Prasad, in a statement said: "The company is in the process of finalising negotiations with a master distributor who will offer the product to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and retail channels across the country. We are also in advanced discussions with leading car manufacturers and other retail channels in parallel."

Any user of a vehicle installed with SatGuide has to enter the destination address in the unit prior to starting. The device would then suggest the best possible route, display a map on the screen of the navigation device and then prompt the user through voice commands on the directions to take, in order to reach the destination.

The company has partnered with a Canadian company HSTC, a leader in navigation software, and has integrated this with SatGuide. The hardware is procured from MiTAC, a Taiwanese company. To begin with, this would be offered in Hyderabad, the National Capital Region covering five centres, and Mumbai, including 12 satellite towns.
