Rakesh Mohan to move to RBI

Alok Mukherjee

New Delhi , June 28

THE Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) in the Union Finance Ministry, Mr Rakesh Mohan, is being shifted to the Reserve Bank of India as Deputy Governor. He is likely to be relieved from his current post by the end of this month.

Mr Mohan's move out of the Finance Ministry was on the cards for some time and he was being considered for a posting either at the World Bank as Executive Director representing India there or to the Reserve Bank as Deputy Governor. Mr Mohan had held the post of Deputy Governor of RBI in the past, prior to his joining the Finance Ministry. Incidentally, Mr Mohan had not been designated as Finance Secretary though he was holding the post of Secretary, DEA, during the last budget-making process.
