Kellogg India plans rice flakes, oats variants

New Delhi , June 29

KELLOGG India plans to expand its product base by adding rice flakes and oats to the existing portfolio, but has no plans to slash prices of its breakfast cereals.

Ever since it set shop in the country a decade ago, product pricing has been a major hurdle in Kellogg India's growth plans. Competing breakfast cereal brands, such as Mohan Meakins, sell their products at almost half the price of Kellogg's.

The Managing Director of Kellogg India Pvt Ltd, Mr K. Venkatachalam, said, "Yes, it is a fact that pricing has been an issue for us. But we are not planning to reduce prices of our products. Instead, our endeavour is to limit any future hikes to the minimum through better cost management."

Mr Venkatachalam said the company, with a turnover of Rs 80 crore, "has just about broken even. But then, the Kellogg's not taking a short-term view of the market and we will do whatever necessary to expand in India."
