Separate corridor likely for Dadri inland container depot

New Delhi , June 29

A SEPARATE corridor for the Dadri Inland Container Depot (ICD) is under consideration. This was confirmed by Dr Christian Fernandez, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, who was speaking at an open house discussion on ICD, Dadri organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) today.

The Dadri depot is crucial as the new traffic rules for Delhi would come into effect in the next two days.

The ICD at Dadri, which was inaugurated in January 2004, is the largest container terminal depot in Asia and currently handled five lakh twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) a year with a capacity that can go up to 10 lakh TEUs.

Dr Fernandez emphasised the need to make Government policies more attractive to encourage greater role for the private sector in infrastructure development.

Dr Fernandez and Mr Rakesh Mehrotra, Managing Director of Concor, agreed to form a forum for sorting out the grassroots problems at ICD, Delhi.

The forum would have representations from exporters, importers, Custom house agents and shipping lines, among others.
