Shipping Seaways launches feeder service Our Bureau
Hyderabad , June 29 SEAWAYS Shipping Ltd, the container transportation provider, has formally launched its dedicated feeder service between the ports of Visakhapatnam, Kolkata and Chittagong in Bangladesh. The 10-day fixed schedule service in the North Bay of Bengal has received encouraging response from exporters of cement, agri products, chilled fish and automobile industries, according to Hyderabad-based Seaways Shipping. CEX 1, which is a 224-TEU capacity Indian registered vessel, will give impetus to transhipment cargoes into Kolkata/Chittagong through mother vessels calling directly from the North Chinese ports, apart from developing trade between Vizag/Chittagong and Kolkata/Chittagong on a regular basis. The cargo from North India can be routed directly from the Inland Container Depot (ICD), New Delhi, to the Kolkata docks and the Vizag ports by rakes and then feeder-connected to Bangladesh. Similarly, cargo from western India can be connected to Vizag through ICD, Nagpur and Hyderabad. The service, delayed for a month due to technical reasons, will enable customers move their cargo quicker than before. The current routing to Chittagong from India by sea through JNPT/Chennai, via transhipment ports Singapore/Port Klang, takes 25 to 30 days. Shippers will now benefit from direct sailing and enjoy transit time of three days to Kolkata and Chittagong, Seaways Shipping said.
