Frankfinn airhostess institute proposes six overseas centres

Kolkata , June 30

FRANKFINN Institute of Airhostess Training is working on plans to open six overseas cabin crew training centres by the end of this year.

One centre would be opened in Dubai, while another would be opened in Bahrain. Another four centres would be opened in other destinations in West Asia, according to Mr K.S. Kohli, Chairman of the institute.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr Kohli said that while the Dubai centre would be owned and operated by Frankfinn, the proposed centre in Bahrain would be opened in association with a local partner. The opening up of each overseas centre would entail an investment of Rs 1-1.5 crore.

Mr Kohli said Frankfinn now has 43 cabin crew training centres spread across 34 cities in India. By end-March 2006, the number of such centres in India would be augmented to 65. The setting up of each domestic centre would entail an investment of Rs 40-50 lakh. The number of centres in Kolkata would be augmented to five by December 2005 even as plans have been firmed up to open centres in other cities such as Patna, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro and Rourkela, among others.

According to him, India was a booming market for airline companies. In fact, about 50 per cent of the orders-in-hand held by aircraft manufacturers, such as Boeing and Airbus Industrie, were from Indian aviation companies. It has been estimated that, in the next five years, there would be demand for an additional 21,000 flight attendants. As such, there was great scope for providing training in basic cabin crew activities.

Frankfinn, which has registered a revenue of Rs 26 crore in 2004-05, is hopeful to clock a revenue of Rs 75 crore on its operations during the year ending March 31, 2006, according to Mr Kohli.
