INVESTMENT from Indian businesses in the UK jumped nearly 30 per cent during last fiscal, to reach a record level.

Indian companies invested in 36 new projects in the UK in 2004-05 against 28 in the previous fiscal. This is the highest-ever Indian investment inflow into the UK, according to the Deputy Director of Inward Investment of UK, Mr Mark Dolan.

"As the Indian economy continues to grow, we have been able to attract investments from across a broad range of sectors. While the ICT (information, communication and technology sector) remains strong, we have also had significant wins in food and beverages, pharmaceuticals and engineering segments," Mr Dolan said in a statement.

Significant projects from India include Satnam Overseas' subsidiary called Indo-European Food Ltd dealing in rice; offshore service provider Softspin UK Ltd and HCL Technologies BPO Services.
