Hyderabad , June 30

THE Directorate of Rice Research (DRR) here has decided to present the story of rice, the staple food of millions of Indians, in an easy to understand, audio-visual format, by setting up a museum.

Perhaps, the first museum for rice in the country, the facility is expected to be formally inaugurated by the Director-General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Dr Mangala Rai, during the second week of July.

The DRR, a constituent national research institute of the ICAR has invested about Rs 10 lakh in the project for posterity. The museum would be thrown open to researchers, students and general public as well in due course of time, the Project Director of DRR, Dr B. Mishra, told Business Line.

A touch-screen kiosk, interactive models, scroll screen and illuminated posters try to capture the various facets of rice research.
