Human Resources Airvana to expand development team Vishwanath Kulkarni
Bangalore , June 30 TELECOM infrastructure solutions start-up Airvana Inc is planning to expand its development operations in India. The company plans to almost double the strength of the software development team in Bangalore from the present 40 to around 70 by the year-end, said Mr Randy Battat, President and CEO, Airvana Inc. Venture capital firm Matrix Partners, Mr Gururaj Deshpande of Sycamore Networks and telecom major Qualcomm Inc are among the key investors in Airvana. The company, which develops infrastructure solutions for third generation (3G) networks, has raised over $80 million till date. A significant portion of the software that goes into Airvana's solutions was developed at its centre in Bangalore, he said. The technology developed by Airvana allows CDMA carriers to launch 3G 1xEV-DO networks that use all-IP infrastructure, Mr Battat said. Airvana's 3G networks can accommodate more data, which means carriers can offer more data services. The demand for more and more data services on wireless networks would be the driver for new services and applications, he said. Ericsson and Nortel Networks are among the equipment partners of Airvana, Mr Battat said.
