Our Bureau

Mumbai , June 30

CONSEQUENT to the increased input price of natural gas, compressed natural gas (CNG) price will be revised with effect from July 1.The current price of CNG in Mumbai is Rs 19.77 per kg. The revised price will be Rs 20.90 per kg. Owing to Octroi, the new price in Mira-Bhayandar area will be Rs 21 per kg and in the Thane area Rs 21.30 per kg.

Mr A. K. Purwaha, Managing Director of Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL), said, "In addition to being environment friendly, natural gas is also cost-effective compared to petrol and diesel. Running cost of a CNG vehicle is more than 60 per cent cheaper than petrol run vehicle.''

At present, MGL, a joint venture between GAIL, British Gas and the Government of Maharashtra, supplies CNG to over 1,50,000 vehicles in Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar and Thane through its network of 108 CNG stations with 524 dispensing points.

MGL also supplies PNG (piped natural gas) to around 2.25 lakh domestic and industrial households in Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar and Thane through its widespread distribution network of 182 km of steel and 1704 km of MDPE pipeline system spread across the city. MGL plans to extend its pipelines network beyond Greater Mumbai, Thane and Mira-Bhayandar to the adjoining areas of Belapur Road, Vashi, Kalyan, and Dombivili in a phased manner.
