Andhra Pradesh has involved self-help groups (SHGs) and community-based organisations in rural areas and community development societies in urban areas to ensure success of its Rs 250-crore mid-day meal scheme. About 70,000 schools covering 75 lakh children in the primary and upper primary schools are beneficiaries of the scheme. In Hyderabad, the NGO Naandi has been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing and distributing the mid-day meal.
