On the beaten path

A group of daily commuters of the six villages from Hatgacha to Hatishala, a 12-km stretch in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, struggling to cross a road that has been battered by rains.

It is only a 35-km drive from the central part of Kolkata but people say that they are far away from the development map. Ironically, Friday is the birth and death anniversary day of the visionary Chief Minister of West Bengal late B.C. Roy, who tried to initiate many development plans for the State.
