THE State Industries Minister, Mr V.K. Ebrahim Kunju, inaugurated the help centre of Cochin Customs on Friday.
The centre is located at the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Building, Mattancherry for which the chamber has provided all infrastructure, including online connectivity.
Mr D.D. Ingty, Commissioner of Customs, who presided over the inaugural function, said that Cochin Customs had a thriving port and a fast-developing airport within its jurisdiction.
Almost nine lakh passengers travel to and from the country through Kochi and 90,000 import/export consignments are moved through the port every year.
The centre is particularly aimed at such persons and start-up businesses. They would normally not have recourse to professional help. It is expected that the centre can fill this gap and advise such persons free of cost.
Prof. K V Thomas MLA offered felicitations. The Chamber President Mr K S Sabu, Vice-President Mr Balagopala B Pai and Advisor M A Thomas also spoke on the occasion.
