Hyderabad , June 30

THE Centre has sanctioned a fresh assistance of Rs 124 crore for Andhra Pradesh under the National Food For Work Programme (NFFWP) for the year 2005-06.

According to a State Government press release, the assistance will be in the form of cash grant and release of rice. The decision would benefit thousands of people in the seven districts where the programme is under implementation.

The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh had launched the nation-wide scheme at Chevella in Ranga Reddy District in November, 2004. The seven districts in AP are, Mahabubnagar, Adilabad, Warangal, Khammam, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda and Kadapa.

In the 100-day programme schedule for individuals, the Government would ensure that each worker gets Rs 100 per day at the rate of 8 kg of rice and Rs 16 for one cubic metre of soil work. It is arranged in such a way that rice constitutes 75 per cent of the payment component, while the balance is paid as wages in the form of cash.
