New Delhi , July 1

MARUTI Udyog Ltd reported a modest 4.6-per cent rise in sales in June 2005 at 41,390 units, against 39,574 units in the same month last year, even as sales of its `M800' model continued to skid despite a significant price cut announced in the month.

Domestic sales for the carmaker moved up 4.3 per cent to 37,995 units, against 36,415 units in June 2004.

Declining exports were arrested and the company shipped 3,395 units - a growth of 3,159 units. However, exports in the first three months of the fiscal (April-June 2005) still show a decline, dipping 43.7 per cent to 6,893 units against 12,240 units in the same period last year.

Maruti, which cut the price of the M800 model by Rs 16,000 in June, sold 6,387 units of the model in the month, which is 40 per cent down from 10,761 units sold in June last year.

M800 sales in the three months of the fiscal stand at 19,413 units, down 39 per cent compared to 31,874 units in April-June 2004.

Sales in the compact car segment, where the company sells models such as Alto, Zen, WagonR and the newly-launched Swift, saw a 31.6-per cent rise in June at 24,703 units(18,768).
