AP mulls directorate for cloud seeding

THE Andhra Pradesh Government is contemplating establishment of a directorate for cloud seeding, according to the Minister for Lift Irrigation, Mr M. Mareppa.

He was speaking to newspersons after inaugurating the second radar station for cloud seeding set up at Ibrahimpatnam, about 30 km from Hyderabad, on Sunday.

The Minister said that he would request the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to hike the funding for the rain shadow areas development department. As part of this programme, it is proposed to establish a weather modification institute at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological Institute.
