Cultivation AP plan to expedite 8 irrigation projects Our Bureau
Hyderabad , July 3 THE Andhra Pradesh Government plans to complete eight irrigation projects at an outlay of Rs 5,776 crore latest by the next kharif season. The projects would have the capacity to irrigate 16.60 lakh acres. The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who reviewed the progress of the eight irrigation projects scheduled to be completed by June 2006, directed the engineering officials to expedite work and complete land acquisition related work. The projects to be taken up are Vamsadhara project right main canal (Phase-I of Stage-II), Tadipudi lift irrigation scheme, Pushkaram LIS, Telugu Ganga project, Somasila, J. Chokka Rao Godavari LIS (phase-I), Ali Sagar LIS, and Gutpa Lift Irrigation Scheme. According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, Dr Reddy wanted officials to fix up project-wise targets and expedite the land acquisition. He convened a meeting of various departments to focus on these projects. Given the poor performance of the monsoon in the State, the State has been motivating farmers to go in for irrigated dry crops and horticulture crops under the Telugu Ganga project and all lift irrigation schemes and directed against paddy and sugarcane cultivation. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister cleared sanction of Rs 2.52 crore towards input subsidy for 11 districts that were hit by hailstorms/gale wind during April, May, and June this year, causing crop loss. Stamp duty cut: Meanwhile, the State Government has reduced the stamp duty and tax on transfer of property from eight per cent to seven per cent within municipal corporation areas. Further, the stamp duty payable on sale deeds relating to flats and apartments has been changed from slab system and now fixed at five per cent. In a statement from the office of the Commissioner and Inspector-General, Registration and Stamps, stamp duty on general power of attorney, which is given for construction, development of or sale or transfer of property of any immovable property, has been reduced. If the power is given to family members, the stamp duty is Rs 1,000 and if given to others, one per cent stamp duty is payable. Further, in case of partition, release and gift settlement instruments within family members, the duty has been cut from three per cent to one per cent.
