Hexaware to train freshers at Pollachi college

L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore , July 3

JOB pickers, particularly IT companies, are in a hurry to train fresh graduates. The induction programme has now started to happen in the campus itself. IT companies call it a `relationship-building' exercise.

Cognizant Technology Solutions had announced that it would train its fresh recruits at the PSG College of Technology campus, before they were initiated into the company. `This will reduce our training period and make the candidates `industry-ready' by the time they join us,' a company spokesperson said.

Now, Hexaware Technologies has signed an MoU with Dr Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (MCET), Pollachi, to train about 300 fresh recruits for Hexaware in executive skills.

`It is a 42-day, residential training programme, designed to prepare freshers from across India for a career in Hexaware. The programme aims at developing behavioural and technical skills, language and application-specific skills as well,' its Executive Director and President (India Operations), Mr P.K. Sridharan, said. This programme was for a common cause (which is education), but with benefits to both the institution and the company, he added.

The company, he said invested close to Rs 1 lakh per candidate on training alone. Training was an on-going exercise, he said.

Its present employee strength (across the globe) was 4,500. `We are planning to add another 1,000-1,500 persons in the coming year' he said.

Hexaware, he said was in the process of establishing a huge development centre at Siruseri in Chennai. `We have plans for 8-lakh sq. ft development centre. In the first phase, we intend to complete 3-lakh sq. ft and the rest would be taken up in the second phase. The project will be complete by 2006,' he said.

The company is targeting a business volume of $ 1 billion by 2009. `We did $120 million last year and are targeting $170 m during this year,' he said.
