Singapore Air plans more services from Bangalore

Bangalore , July 6

SINGAPORE Airlines hopes it could operate daily service from Bangalore by the year-end when it expected the Indian Government to accept its request for enhancing the frequency under bilateral air services exchange.

Bangalore has greater potential with its concentration of international IT companies and other corporates, which has given rise to more demand for flights. Currently, there were only 10 direct flights between Bangalore and Singapore being operated by Indian Airlines and Singapore Airlines. IA has six daily services and the remaining three being run by Singapore Airlines, said Mr B.K. Ong, General Manager, Singapore Airlines.

Talking to reporters, Mr Ong said SIA had 41 weekly services from seven cities of India, which included two more cities — Ahmedabad and Amritsar. Besides, its subsidiary Silk Air runs 12 weekly services from smaller cities such as Cochin, Trivandrum and Hyderabad.

Mr Ong said with the passenger traffic registering a rapid growth, SIA was keen to strengthen its direct services from the - non-metro cities such as Bangalore.

Last year, the passenger traffic grew by 20 per cent from India, he added.

Stating that the huge market also offered a significant chunk of contribution to its traffic to the US, SIA was keen to tap the potential from Bangalore by stepping up the frequency.
