Mumbai , July 6

RAIL Europe (RE), a joint venture between the French and Swiss national railways, announced the launch of its Indian liaison office here on Wednesday.

"India is one of the fastest growing markets and is the fourth largest market among RE's 37 countries. It is also the second largest market for Swiss passes after Japan," said Ms Florence Pasquier, Commercial Director of the company.

She said there were 20,000 Indians who booked Eurostar tickets through its agents in 2004, accounting for three per cent of its worldwide sales.

Rail Europe offers a range of European rail products. Among these are the Eurailpass that enables travellers to discover up to 17 different countries and national and regional passes for travellers wishing to concentrate on one or two countries.

It also offers point-to-point tickets and train journey reservations for clients going from one European city to another.
