WORK on establishing the State Government-sponsored food park in Nilakottai in Dindigul district is likely to commence in a couple of months.

The proposed venture, the first of its kind by the State government, is to be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 13.5 crore.

Besides housing food processing units, the proposed park will have a 2,000-tonne cold storage unit, a 2,000-tonne non-cold storage unit, a spray dryer to convert milk into powder, and a common effluent treatment plant, among other facilities.

According to Mr K. Ganesan, Commissioner of Agriculture Marketing and Agri-business, 100 acres have been acquired from State Industries Promotion Corporation for promoting the food processing industry.
