The fourth estate

Confidentiality of the source is an essential part of the freedom of the Press. Journalists are accorded certain privileges so they can perform their role in a democracy. One must appreciate The New York Times reporter, Ms Judith Miller, for her decision to go to jail rather than reveal her source to a prosecutor investigating the Bush administration's leak of a CIA officer's identity.

However, this has raised the age-old controversy over the freedom of the Press and professional ethics.
