Human Resources Infosys to hire 13,500 more, scales up capex Our Bureau
Bangalore , July 12 STEPPING up its hiring efforts, Infosys Technologies plans to add 13,500 people on a gross basis over the remaining nine months of the current financial year. Infosys' total headcount, including that of its subsidiaries, stood at over 39,800 at the end of the first quarter. Infosys added 3,056 people in the first quarter and expects to add another 7,000 in the second quarter, said the company's Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, Mr S. Gopalakrishnan. The company's attrition during the first quarter stayed almost flat, at 9.8 per cent. Infosys expects to scale up investment in expanding its infrastructure. "Our capital expenditure has been revised from the initial Rs 950-1,100 crore to Rs 1,130-1,280 crore," said Mr Mohandas Pai, Chief Financial Officer. Infosys incurred a capital expenditure of Rs 252 crore in the first quarter, he added. At the end of the first quarter, Infosys had over 75 lakh sq. ft. capable of accommodating 34,711 professionals. Another 35 lakh sq. ft. capable of accommodating 21,105 people is nearing completion . The company has increased the headcount at its China facilities to 243, up from 160 in the previous quarter. Infosys added three new customers to take the overall client base to 15 in China. Meanwhile, Infosys plans to spend $7 million in the second quarter to obtain the required visas for its employees. "The cost per visa has gone up and this is the right time to apply for the US visas, which open up in October. As a result of the higher visa fee, the company is forced to spend $2 million over what was budgeted," Mr Pai said. Infosys spent $5 million in the first quarter for obtaining visas. The processing fee for H-1 visas has been hiked from $1,200 to around $2,200, Mr Pai said, even while declining to comment on the number of visas that the company had applied for. "We have sufficient number of visas," he said, adding that the utilisation of visas stood at 37 per cent.
