HAVING allocated Rs 100 crore through Nabard for connecting 10,000 telecentres across the country, the Government today indicated that it would find "ways and means" to meet further fund requirement for Mission 2007, a project aimed at setting up knowledge centres in 600,000 villages.
Speaking at convention of the National Alliance for Mission 2007, the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, said: "Village Knowledge Centres envisaged under Mission 2007 will be powerful instruments for delivery of e-governance, health and education, commercial information, and other Internet-linked services. Projects like this must be demand-driven, participative, and over a period of time be based on a model that is revenue generating." The proposed budget for the mission, an initiative started by the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation and One World South Asia, is estimated at Rs 6,500 crore.
