Call to boost trade ties with Thailand

THE Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) has called for greater cooperation between the business community in Thailand and Karnataka. To boost ties, the Thai Trade Center, Royal Thai Consulate - General, had organised `Thailand Exhibition 2005', a five-day exhibition, here, said Mr Prakob Panjacharoensiri, Consul (Commercial) and Director, Thailand Embassy.
Mr P.G.R. Sindhia, Minister for Industry and Infrastructure, who inaugurated the exhibition, said Karnataka offered unique opportunities for bilateral trade with Thailand in the areas of information technology, biotechnology, agro-industry and food processing, besides tourism. Both Karnataka and Thailand could work together to enhance competitiveness for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Underlining the potential for bilateral trade, Mr Anant Kopper, President of BCIC, said Thailand offered a unique advantage as a bridge between India and the rest of Asia.
Bilateral trade between Thailand and India was worth $170 million during 2004-05.
Of this, India's exports to Thailand were around $77.40 million.
