THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned Rs 1.26 crore to the State Government for three drainage and flood protection projects in Alappuzha district.
According to a press release issued by the bank, the amount has been sanctioned from Nabard's Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). The three projects, to be implemented in the Kuttanad region of Alappuzha, are intended to provide flood protection to an area of 261.5 hectares.
The projects are expected to control the water level in fields in the area, and thus create opportunities for farmers to grow two crops of paddy with minimum risk of flooding, the release adds. Over 250 farmers are expected to directly benefit from the initiative, which is estimated to cost Rs 1.32 crore. Including the latest advance of Rs 1.26 crore, the total amount sanctioned to Kerala by Nabard under the RIDF is Rs 1,369.19 crore, the press release said.
