Software to regulate pvt buses at Kochi

Our Bureau

Kochi , July 15

THE National Informatics Centre (NIC) is all set to install a software in the Regional Transport Office here to maintain a proper record of private bus timings so as to streamline its plying in the city.

The objective is to put an end to confusion about bus timings and ensure that private buses plied as per scientifically adopted time schedule. The urgency in which the software is being installed is in view of the arguments at the time allotment conference convened at the Regional Transport office here recently. The heated debate had forced the private bus operators to boycott the meeting resulting in abandonment of the conference midway.

According to RTO officials, the NIC team is now busy with entrance counselling and they will be ready with the software in a month's time. Once installed, the route allotment of a bus, the time it reaches each place and the distance between each stop can be known at the press of a button.

It will also help the officials in identifying the time gap between buses plying in the route. The system was tried out successfully in Kozhikode, the officials said.

There are reports that existing bus operators are reluctant to accommodate newcomers in the timings that they had monopoly over. The result is that some passengers had to wait for a long time to catch a bus, whereas three or four buses come together during certain timings.
