HYDERABAD: Income-Tax Department, in association with the Federation of AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI), has opened a help centre for small taxpayers at the chambers' offices.

Inaugurating the help centre at FAPCCI, Mr P.K. Sinha, Chief Commissioner (IT-II), said that a publicity campaign would be launched in the media to spread the word about the centres, a release said.

Initially, the centre would be run up to September 30. The officials would extend it further if the response were good.

While the chambers provide the infrastructure, the Government has offered human resources.

Promising to help small taxpayers, the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, had proposed to set up such help centres through out the country in association with industry associations. These centres would handhold the taxpayers in a variety of issues such as filing returns, computing returns, and calculating taxes.
