Outlook Satyam, TRW see further scope for growth in alliance Our Bureau
Chennai , July 15 THE number of employees of Satyam Computer Services Ltd deployed for the $12-billion US-based TRW Automotive Inc has increased to 400 since the two companies formed an alliance in June 2000, according to Mr Subu D. Subramanian, Director, and Senior Vice-President, Satyam Computer. As per a letter of intent signed five years ago, TRW will outsource to the joint venture at least $200 million worth of projects over a five-year period. The alliance started with 80 per cent of Satyam employees working onsite (in the US) and 20 per cent offshore (in India). However, it is the reverse today, and moving towards 90 per cent offshore and 10 per cent onsite, he said. Satyam started the alliance with basic IT functions, but today supports TRW on business critical IT applications such as embedded systems, engineering services and managed hosting (like data centre services and desktop support), he said. "We are now moving to the next phase of IT deployment with TRW. This includes proposals to identify what sort of problems TRW has and provide necessary IT solutions," he told newspersons on the sidelines of a function here to mark the fifth anniversary of the partnership. Mr Joe Drouin, CIO, TRW Automotive, which supplies major vehicle manufacturers with chassis and occupant safety systems, said, "The relationship will grow further. However, I cannot reveal at this point what that could be in terms of people and financials." Mr Subramanian declined to give any financial details in the partnership.
